Italy’s public medicine is a big blessing to us! Without it we would have at times had to go without medical care. We appreciate having good care and treatment at no or low out-of-pocket costs. But it’s always been our family dottori (doctors) that we most value.
According to Amnesty International there are 26 million refugees worldwide, half of which are children. If we add to that the estimated 272 million international migrants, that’s a lot of people moving around. And turning up right at our doorstep!
That day, as always, a large crowd gathered around the young rabbi, new on the scene. Amazed at his wonderful teaching, they sought him out wherever he went. And now that news of his miracles had spread, the throng pressed against him even more, nearly backing him into the Sea of Galilee. So Jesus, boarding Simon Peter’s boat, requested, “Row out a little way from the shore.”
Our village nestles between the rolling hills of Abruzzo’s Apennine mountains and the Adriatic coast. Covered with vineyards and olive groves, with snow-capped mountains in the background! Abruzzo truly is beautiful, and we feel blessed to live in such an area! Largely an agriculture region, it’s famous for its Montepulciano wine. And also for its long beautiful beaches, gorgeous mountains, and great cuisine.
